Tear Up Carpet Conrete

This is my first time removing carpet from a concrete basement floor.

Use a utility. Removing carpet isn t as simple as ripping it up and throwing it out. Pull back a corner of the carpet using a pair of pliers. Cut the pad into strips and roll it up just as you did with the carpet.

Are you throwing it away or are you going to salvage it. When the corner of the carpet is loose use your gloved hands to pull along the length of the wall. Cut the carpet into sections so it is easier to carry out of the room if you are throwing it out. The carpet will be connected to the concrete surface via a series of wooden strips to which the carpet is tacked.

It s not as easy as just pulling up the carpet. When you ve torn off all the carpet and pad pull out all the staples with pliers. Tack strips hold the carpet in place an. Use pliers to tightly grab the carpet.

To remove them use a floor scraper. Remove the 3 foot wide carpet sections from the tack strips by shaking the carpet in a back and forth motion while pulling it up from the surface of the floor. Pull toward you to detach it from the sharp tack strip that holds it to the floor along the wall. This video shows the steps that must be taken in preparation for staining concrete floors.
